Ekoskola Project 2019-2020
COMMUNITIES AND WATER
In order to make our students more aware of how precious water is and how lucky we are to have access to clean drinking water, we first showed them video clips of children in poor countries, walking for miles to find some water, carrying heavy containers on their shoulders back to their homes or drinking dirty infested water. In the meantime our school had the opportunity of participating in a competition organized by Europe Direct (Gozo) on water-saving devices, so the students carried out research about them and created a play which they acted out as a puppet show. Some of these students had the opportunity of performing this puppet show in a UK school while they were on a funded trip in the UK which was part of the prize that the school received when it won the EDIC award through this project.
Besides the Water project, the school is also working on Communities. Students from our school have visited the elderly, the rapid intervention unit, a baker and other people who give service in our community. Our students have also done research on refugees, and as a follow up they created write-ups and charts which were displayed during our Parents' Day. They were also shown video clips depicting the hardships that are faced by refugees across the world.
